इंग्रजी व्याकरणातील Preposition (शब्दयोगी अव्यय), त्याचे मुख्य कार्य आणि महत्त्वाचे प्रकारांची सविस्तर माहिती खालीलप्रमाणे आहे.

📌 Preposition (शब्दयोगी अव्यय)

Definition (व्याख्या): A Preposition is a word placed before a Noun or a Pronoun (called its object) to show its relation to some other word in the sentence. Preposition हा असा शब्द आहे जो नाम किंवा सर्वनामाच्या आधी वापरला जातो आणि त्याचा संबंध वाक्यातील इतर शब्दांशी जोडतो.

Function (कार्य): हे प्रामुख्याने वेळ (Time), ठिकाण (Place), दिशा (Direction) किंवा संबंध (Relation) दर्शवते.

Example (उदाहरण): The book is on the table.

('on' हे 'book' आणि 'table' या दोन शब्दांमधील ठिकाणाचा संबंध दर्शवते.)

📝 Types of Prepositions (शब्दयोगी अव्ययाचे प्रकार)

Prepositions त्यांच्या कार्यावरून तीन प्रमुख प्रकारांमध्ये विभागले जातात:

1. Prepositions of Time (कालवाचक)

क्रिया कधी घडली, हे दर्शवतात.

Preposition	वापर (Usage)	उदाहरणे (Examples)
At	विशिष्ट वेळ (Exact Time), रात्र (Night).	At 5 o'clock, at night.
On	दिवस (Days) आणि तारखा (Dates).	On Monday, on 15th August.
In	महिने (Months), वर्ष (Years), ऋतू (Seasons), मोठा कालावधी (Long period).	In July, in 2024, in the morning.
Since	विशिष्ट वेळेपासून सुरू (Past point, used with Perfect Tense).	Since 2020.
For	वेळेचा कालावधी (Duration, used with Perfect Tense).	For three years.
Before/After	क्रियेच्या आधी/नंतर.	Before sunrise, after the meeting.

2. Prepositions of Place and Direction (स्थल व दिशावाचक)

वस्तू कोठे आहे (स्थान) किंवा कोणत्या दिशेने जात आहे (दिशा), हे दर्शवतात.

In	आत (Inside a space).	In the room, in a box.
On	वर (Surface touch).	On the table, on the wall.
At	विशिष्ट ठिकाण/ठिपका (Specific point/location).	At the gate, at the bus stop.
Between	दोघांच्या मध्ये (Two things/people).	Between Ram and Shyam.
Among	अनेकांच्या मध्ये (More than two).	Among the students.
To	दिशेकडे/हालचाल (Movement towards).	Going to school.
Into	आतमध्ये हालचाल (Movement inside).	Jump into the river.
Over	वरून (Above/covering something, not touching).	A bridge over the river.
Under	खाली (Below something).	The cat is under the bed.

3. Prepositions of Agent or Instrument (साधन/माध्यम वाचक)

Preposition	अर्थ व वापर (Usage)	उदाहरणे (Examples)
By	क्रियेचा कर्ता (Agent, usually in Passive Voice).	The work was done by him.
With	क्रियेचे साधन (Instrument) किंवा सोबत (Accompany).	He wrote with a pen.
Of	संबंध, मालकी (Possession/Relation).	The cover of the book.
About	विषयासंबंधी (Concerning).	Talking about the trip.
For	उद्देश, कारण (Purpose, Reason).	Gift for my brother.

💡 Fixed Prepositions (निश्चित Prepositions)

काही क्रियापद (Verbs), विशेषण (Adjectives) आणि नामे (Nouns) यांच्यासोबत विशिष्ट Prepositions नेहमी निश्चितपणे वापरले जातात. यावर स्पर्धा परीक्षांमध्ये त्रुटी (Error) ओळखण्याचे प्रश्न येतात.
